KCBS Certified BBQ Judge (CBJ):  Once certified, CBJ's can apply directly to a contest or through the KCBS website to judge at contests around the world.  Basic judging includes scoring entries of chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket for appearance, tenderness, and taste.  Some contests also offer a variety of additional ancillary contests such as ... dessert, specialty drinks, mystery baskets, and much more.  As a CBJ, you would also be eligible to judge those categories. 

Table Captain (TC):  Coordinates the process at a table (usually 6 judges) to assure the blind judging numbers are correct and accurate, present entries to judges, answer questions from judges, etc.  Although Table Captains do not normally participate in the actual judging, there are still opportunities to sample the delicious entries at the end of the judging session.  

There are also various volunteer opportunities at each BBQ competition including those who accept the turn-in entries from teams, and other important activities.

Individual memberships are $45/year with family memberships (2 people) at $60/yr. providing several benefits including a variety of business discounts, monthly "Bullsheet" newsletter, access to KCBS databases to find future judging opportunities, and other information.  The KCBS website provides a wealth of information including lists of upcoming contests you might wish to apply as a judge.  BBQ Judges have their own Facebook pages to maintain communication.  Couples often find BBQ judging a fun weekend get-away, part of a planned vacation, or a new hobby they can enjoy together, while enjoying some of the best BBQ meats in the world!
